When is the right time to resole?
If you know the optimal time for a repair, you can avoid a rand repair — and save money. A rand repair is only possible in combination with a new sole. So how do you recognize the right time for new soles?
- The sole is worn down close to the rand
- The rand rubber is still intact
- When applying pressure, the edge only gives slightly and not in specific spots
Of course, we can also repair shoes where the rand rubber is already worn or even has a small hole. In that case, however, a rand repair will be necessary.
Original rubber or half sole?
Whether full sole, half sole, or a demanding No-Edge repair with original components — here you can see different climbing shoes we have repaired. For LA SPORTIVA models, we offer the option to repair your shoes using original parts. This means your Solutions, Skwamas, Otakis and co. will feel almost like new again — already perfectly broken in, just freshly repaired.
Please note that original repair components may differ slightly from new factory parts on some models. All repair components are finished in black.
When are climbing shoes no longer repairable?
Is the shoe still repairable — or is the hole already too big? Climbing shoes don’t just lose rubber on the sole. The rand rubber also wears down, and even the inner leather becomes thinner over time due to constant pressure and gripping.
If this damage becomes too extensive, the shoe can no longer be sustainably repaired. In such cases, the repair result would only last a few weeks before the shoe would need another repair.
Therefore, our clear recommendation:
Send in your shoes as soon as the leather becomes visible.
Which outsole rubber is right for me and my bouldering shoes?
We work with all leading rubber manufacturers: Vibram, Evolv, and Boreal. Each rubber compound has its own profile in terms of friction, edging stability, and durability. Depending on the surface, area of use, and your climbing style, we offer the best rubber options for your climbing shoes — whether precision shoes, comfy all-rounders, or aggressive bouldering weapons.
We use original repair components from La Sportiva and Scarpa. For rand rubber, we use 2 mm Vibram. All components are finished in black rubber.
